Yomenya Goemon Japanese Spaghetti House

Yomenya Goemon Japanese Spaghetti House

Spaghetti? Japanese? How did these 2 words come together? One is supposed to be of Italian origin and the other is obviously Japan. However this is indeed the case at Yomenya Goemon Japanese Spaghetti House situated at Marina Bay Link Mall.

A look at the menu revealed a small part of its over 30 years history originating from Shibuya, Japan with over 2500 stores nation wide. Its basic ingredients of spaghetti, olive oil and cheese are in fact imported from Italy but cooked the Japanese way.

Salad bar

All set meals entitle us to one serving from the salad bar.

I decided to try out its Half & Half Set A ($20.90) Tomato sauce with basil & mozarella and Cream sauce spaghetti with crab, shrimp & scallop as these are the 2 main types of sauces for spaghetti. My wife opted for the soup clam chowder ramen.

A warning to small eaters that although it says 'half and half', unlike other restaurants that may serve 'half udon' or half ramen' which is equivalent to just a small bowl. This serving portion is actually a standard main course serving. Therefore you might wish to share with a friend if you are choosing this set.

The overall feel was that while the ambience and food setting was exquisite and pleasing to the eyes, we do feel the taste of the food was somewhat more salty to our liking.

However, the food are value for money and we would come back and try out the other dishes in future.

Beans Talk Taiwan dessert

I recently came across this newly opened dessert stall at Jurong East Bus Interchange and decided to order a takeaway and tried its 'Beans Talk Signature' Taiwanese dessert at a promotional price of $2.  I have to give it a 'thumbs up' as how they manage to pack a mixture of chilled grass jelly with bean toppings, taro balls & roasted nuts into a small container and make it taste so good really amazes me. I will definitely be coming back for more.

Xian Ding Wei (鲜定味) @ IMM Jurong East

Chanced upon this taiwanese express restaurant while shopping at imm and decided to give it a try as i suddenly had this craving for taiwanese food. Had been missing the streets where the whole stretch would be lined up with food of endless varieties.

Back to Xian Ding Wei, i must say that it has a very cosy and homely feel to the setting of the restaurant.

The average cost of each set is in the range of $8 which includes some light dishes as appetiser, soup of the day, rice or porridge, and along with the main dish all served neatly in a small tray. Just top up an additional $1 for a drink of your choice.
After going through a long list of taiwan specialities, we settled for a set of steam pork and another set of hotpot chicken.
The verdict? Although we came with the intention for a taste of some of the local taiwanese food, we were pleasantly surprised that what we experienced was a delight of home cooked somewhat different from taiwan.
In anycase, with our bellies filled we were ready to carry on with our shopping for the festive season.
The next time you are looking for some chinese fastfood with a feel of your mum's cooking. Head down to Xian Ding Wei @IMM
