Hello Kitty Kitchen Dining Taipei

I always loved how themed restaurants make you feel like stepping into a whole new world.
Everything in the restaurant from the food you eat, the furniture and decorations right down to the toilet setting are just so exquisite and charming.

Hello Kitty Kitchen Dining at Taipei is exactly one such uniquely themed restaurant. If you love pink this is truly a pink paradise as pink is everywhere in this restaurant. You will be forgiven if you are caught with your mouth wide open in amazement at how much pinkness and cuteness is packed into this cozy restaurant.

Everything in the menu looked so pretty and captivating. We were simply spoiled for choice. In the end we settled for a burger set meal and a spaghetti set meal with the highest level of cuteness. Each set meal is priced between NT450-NT550 (S$19 - S$24) which includes a main course, a drink, soup of the day and of course...dessert to wrap up an awesome experience.

How can someone not fall in love with such cuteness. Even if you hate the cat with no mouth for whatever reason, surely you will be charmed by one of her friends.
There is a squirrel named Rory, Tippy is a strong and big bear always around to protect kitty, Jody is a studious dog who likes books. A mouse by the name of Joey is athletic and loves sports. And of course there is Daniel who is her boyfriend? Well, you can never have too many friends.
The toilet itself is adorned with Hello Kitty pictures and pink as its main colour.
I have a feeling if they had their way, the tap would be pink as well.
It was magical to just relax and dine the night away enjoying the company of Hello Kitty and friends. Not forgetting pretty waitresses all dressed in pink french maid style who attended to our dining needs all evening.

Cupcakes VS. Muffins: The Difference

It always puzzles me on the difference between cupcakes and muffins. The general rule of thumb people use are usually smaller cupcakes, bigger muffins. But it’s more than size.

So here goes the answer.

Cupcakes are basically miniature cakes. So cake flour is used, which results in lighter and softer texture. And mostly butter is used and cupcakes are 100% sweet.

But muffins can be either sweet or savory. All-purpose flour is used, so the texture is slightly denser. And vegetable oil is generally used.

The difference in procedure results in the different texture of batter between two. As for cupcakes, emulsion (incorporating oil and water) is very important and flour is mixed in the batter until smooth. But when making muffin, all the ingredients are roughly mixed.

And finally, the finishing touch. Cupcakes are normally served with frosting. But for muffins, no frosting.

That’s it. And I love both of them. Any more differences?

Wan Chai HongKong Tea Room

Famous food are usually tagged with a particular place, like when you say 'Katong Laksa' or 'Beach Road Prawn Noodles. And in HongKong, when you go to Wan Chai, you would associate it with 'Wan Chai Wonton Noodles'. However being in Singapore, we are blessed with food from all over the world and do not have to actually be in HongKong to have a taste of what HongKong food is like.

Having done some research on Wan Chai HongKong Tea Room, this was exactly what its founder, Mr John Lim had in mind in 2001 to bring the best of HongKong local food to Singapore and uniquely from Wan Chai.

Ruyi @ RWS

The casino is probably one of the most visited place in Singapore eversince its setup. And due to the influence of casino, its surrounding food business have flourished by many folds.
Its can be such a challenge to look for an empty seat near such a highly visited place like the casino at resort world sentosa and especially during lunchtime

I decided to do a takeaway at Ruyi restaurant. Fried rice and fried noodles. Two very simple takeaways to satisfy our hunger. At $6.50, these 2 dishes are however, surprisingly good.

Yomenya Goemon Japanese Spaghetti House

Yomenya Goemon Japanese Spaghetti House

Spaghetti? Japanese? How did these 2 words come together? One is supposed to be of Italian origin and the other is obviously Japan. However this is indeed the case at Yomenya Goemon Japanese Spaghetti House situated at Marina Bay Link Mall.

A look at the menu revealed a small part of its over 30 years history originating from Shibuya, Japan with over 2500 stores nation wide. Its basic ingredients of spaghetti, olive oil and cheese are in fact imported from Italy but cooked the Japanese way.

Salad bar

All set meals entitle us to one serving from the salad bar.

I decided to try out its Half & Half Set A ($20.90) Tomato sauce with basil & mozarella and Cream sauce spaghetti with crab, shrimp & scallop as these are the 2 main types of sauces for spaghetti. My wife opted for the soup clam chowder ramen.

A warning to small eaters that although it says 'half and half', unlike other restaurants that may serve 'half udon' or half ramen' which is equivalent to just a small bowl. This serving portion is actually a standard main course serving. Therefore you might wish to share with a friend if you are choosing this set.

Soup Clam Chowder ($21.00)

The overall feel was that while the ambience and food setting was exquisite and pleasing to the eyes, we do feel the taste of the food was somewhat more salty to our liking.

However, the food are value for money and we would come back and try out the other dishes in future.
